Welcome to our corner of paradise, where deep roots in volcanic soil and dreams of tropical abundance intertwine to create a living legacy.
I grew up on the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, near Kīlauea volcano, on my parents’ tropical fruit farm. From a young age, I learned to cultivate soil on crushed lava, to savor the rhythm of harvest seasons, and to witness firsthand the magic of nature’s abundance. The tide pools near our home became my first classroom — teeming with life, inspiring a lifelong love of biodiversity and a deep respect for protecting fragile ecosystems.
Those early years shaped me profoundly.
Driven by curiosity and reverence for the natural world, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation Biology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo. My studies deepened my understanding of native species, ecosystem restoration, and the delicate balance between culture and conservation.
Then, just four days before my son was born, I began a new chapter — purchasing our own piece of land on the east side of Maui. It was raw, overgrown, and wildly beautiful. Thorny turkey berry reached over 15 feet tall, but I saw potential in every corner. With a friends tractor, machetes and measuring tapes in hand, we began clearing paths and spacing out holes 45 feet apart for our largest fruit trees.
That was 13.5 years ago. Today, my children are growing tall — and so are our trees. The farm is now filled with the vibrant life of animals, fruit, and purpose. We are expanding into medicinal plants, canoe crops, and native endemic species that restore the balance and honor the land.
This blog is a place to share our stories — from the planting of seeds to the harvesting of wisdom.Whether you're here for inspiration, education, or to simply enjoy the journey, mahalo nui loa for being part of our ʻohana. 🌈
With aloha, Hilary Hāna Lōkahi Farm
